Basic Classes and Special Seminars are some of the educational outreaches
of PMUG. By attending these seminars or free classes the needs of beginner, intermediate, and advanced Mac users can be met.
Sign up for all PMUG College Classes by calling the PMUG College Hotline, 503.224.4289. You can also send email to college@pmug.org. State your name and which class you want to attend. Messages are picked up about twice a week, and you may not receive a call back unless the class is full or cancelled.
Basic Classes
The PMUG College offers a basic series of classes designed to help you get the most from your Macintosh. These are held on Thursday evenings, starting promptly at 7:15 pm and are free for PMUG members. Currently, classes are being held at the Friendship Masonic Lodge, located at the intersection of NE 57th Avenue and NE Sandy, about ten minutes from downtown by car, fifteen to twenty minutes by bus.
The Basic Classes normally cover topics like these. Check the PMUG calendar for specific class details.
Introduction to Macintosh Desktop
Learn how to use window functions, create folders for storing data, set Finder preferences, add and remove dock contents. Creating and storing basic documents will be covered. For folks switching from Windows a short course in “where is my ………” will be included if desired.
Installing and Backing Up
Installing Software, Updating Software, Backing Up Files and Using Time Machine will be covered in this class
iTunes and iPods
Learn how to use iTunes to organize your music and how to intergrate it with the music on your iPod. Find out what shortcuts and tricks are available make these tasks more manageable. iPhone use with music will also be covered.
Email and Internet
Learn the basics of regular email and web mail. Students will learn to utilize the capabilities of internet browsers like Safari and Firefox.
iPhoto and iMovie
The class will demonstrate how to download and archive photos using iPhoto. Some basic cropping and adjusting will be covered. The iMovie portion of the class will cover how a movie clip is imported and edited. Taking the movie to DVD will be included if desired by the class.
Pages and Numbers
This class will show how to use Pages to create simple documents as well as publishing style documents. The class will also demonstrate the basic functions of the Numbers program.
Bento
FileMaker’s entry into a personal database application is explored in this introductory class. Learn how this application functions to help you with personal organization and productivity.
iWeb
If you’ve ever wanted to have an easy way to create a web site and post it to the web, this class is for you.
The PMUG College also occasionally offers Special Seminars covering a wide variety of subjects and programs. You need to be a PMUG member and preregister for the seminars. The cost for a seminar depends on the length of the class.
