PMUG COLLEGE meets at Rose City Park United Methodist Church. This is at 5830 NE Alameda St, Portland, 97213 in Room 208.  If you are interested in attending, please email us at college@pmug.org and keep checking back for updates.

Basic Classes and Special Seminars are some of the educational outreaches of PMUG. By attending these seminars or free classes the needs of beginner, intermediate, and advanced Mac users can be met.

Sign up for all PMUG College Classes by calling the PMUG College Hotline, 503.224.4289. You can also send email to college@pmug.org. State your name, telephone number, email address and which class you want to attend. Messages are picked up about twice a week, and you may not receive a call back unless the class is full or cancelled.

Basic Classes

The PMUG College offers a basic series of classes designed to help you get the most from your Macintosh and iOS devices (iPhone/iPad/iPod).

The Basic Classes normally cover topics like those described below. Actual material presented may vary based on students attending each class.
Check the PMUG calendar  for specific class dates.

CLASS ONE: NAVIGATION IN MAC OSX
Class includes exploring the essential System Preferences and functions of the Finder. A look at how Mission Control & Launch Pad change the way projects begin.

CLASS TWO: THE WEB
The Web, iCloud and Email. Discover how to create and manage bookmarks on a web browser. Find out the difference between doing email on the Mail program and using a web browser to retrieve it. See how iCloud can allow you to keep all mail, web bookmarks, email, and other documents synched on all of your devices.

CLASS THREE: iPHOTO
One of the easiest things to use your computer for is storing and sharing photos. Learn to use iPhoto for organizing, editing, and enhancing them. Familiarize yourself with how to have sets of photos become the background of your desktop. The basics of Faces & Places will be covered.

CLASS FOUR: THE KITCHEN SINK
This class includes Dropbox, maintaining system health with useful utilities, screen shots, text tricks using Keyboard Viewer, and additional graphics using Character Viewer. This class will also be used for addressing requests from class members.

CLASS FiVE: THE iOS SYSTEM FOR iPAD, iTOUCH, AND iPHONE: PART 1
Learn how to arrange and manage your apps. Tour the Settings and determine the functions of each part of that very important app. Learn how to close apps and reset your device when problems arise.

CLASS SIX: THE iOS SYSTEM FOR iPAD, iTOUCH, AND iPHONE: PART 2
Learn how to oversee your data usage and manage programs that continue GPS tracking in the background.

CLASS SEVEN: HIGHLY RATED  iOS APPS
Explore some apps that are recommended by PMUG members and other consultants.

CLASS EIGHT: PHOTO MANAGEMENT IN iOS
Examine apps that edit photos in iOS. Many of these are free; we also include Apple’s iPhoto app which is not free.

Special Seminars:

The PMUG College also occasionally offers Special Seminars covering a wide variety of subjects and programs. You need to be a PMUG member and preregister for the seminars. The cost for a seminar depends on the length of the class. If you have an idea for a special seminar topic, please contact us!
