The Basics of Photographic Portraiture
Duane Hansen
In this seminar I’ll be tackling the issues that arise around the Photographic Portrait. I look at portraiture from a handful of different angles including outdoor, indoor and the ideal studio setups. We’ll be talking about the camera equipment, the lenses, the lighting equipment choices including electronic flash and metering techniques. We’ll talk about artistic and photographic traditions and how to emulate them and when to break away. We’ll talk about how to pose a subject and how to be ready to catch that special moment. This class should help everyone who likes to take pictures of people.
Saturday Morning
BezierNot: There’s More Than One Way To Get A Head
Terry Shellenberger
Adobe’s Illustrator has a formidable reputationbut there’s a lot to use other than those dreaded bezier curves. Want to look like a professional illustrator? We’re going to use the paint brush and a few tricks to build a cartoon head (or, if you prefer, something else). We’ll draw, redraw, move pieces around, reuse pieces to maintain consistency, color, and maybe even throw in a few Photoshop touches for fun. Watch Illustrator smooth and flow your efforts. Like other classes I have headed, I’m no expert in this software, that’s where we all put our heads together. I will be able to bring to the table some basic drawing skills and the knowledge to get us through this projectyou add the rest. I will be using a tablet and pen and if you have one I’d encourage you to bring it. However, I have used Illustrator’s brush to help overcome some of the limitations of drawing with the track pad on my laptop, the same help will work for mice too. We will supply a trial copy (30 days) of CS2 for those who don’t have CS1 or 2 already.

Fixing Your Photos With Photoshop
Bill Trent
We all have photos that we would like to improve or restore. It might be a scan of an old scratched photo of Uncle George, a scan of a dusty slide from that trip to Italy, or just an overexposed digital image. This class will explore some of the Photoshop tools and techniques that you can use to fix those less-than-perfect images. Students should bring sample images or photos (we will have a scanner available) to use for practicing the methods that will be taught. A 30-day trial version of Photoshop CS2 will be available for those who don’t have a copy of Photoshop.
