After two weeks off for the holidays, PMUG Clinic is back! If you have been saving up questions about your Macintosh computer or iPhone/iPad,  come see us. Members of PMUG will work with you to find answers. Today we meet at Lloyd Center Mall, in the Food Court, between 6:00pm – 7:30pm.

PMUG College Special Class: Get Creative 101

Announcing a Free Class for members of GFO who use Macintosh computers. The Portland Macintosh Users Group is excited to meet at the office of the Genealogical Forum of Oregon. Join us on Wednesday January 9th, 2019. The class will be about Apple’s creative applications: Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, which is included on all current Macintosh systems.

Get Creative 101
Many PMUG members are seeking a free alternative to Micrsoft’s Office suite and don’t care for the ongoing subscription fees of that program. This class covers the basics of Apple’s Pages, Numbers, and Keynote apps on your Mac which can do word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. You will learn to:

• Start a new document and choose where to save it.
• Open up a Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file.
• Use the Media browser to easily add one of your own photos to a document.
• Use some of the free clipart to enhance your projects.
• Export your file as a PDF to share with others.

January 14th General Meeting’s Feature Presentation: HomeKit: Apple’s Vision for Home Automation

Joshin Yamada and Steve Riggins will present HomeKit, Apple’s latest take on home automation. Attempts at home automation have been going on for ages, so why is this a good time to jump in? Are Google or Amazon products as safe and secure as Apple’s? Find out more as Steve and Joshin explain and demonstrate the current state of home automation at this month’s feature presentation.

Come join us at the Jean Vollum Natural Capital Center (Ecotrust Center), 721 NW Ninth Avenue. [Apple Maps] [Google Maps] Question and answer hour starts at 6:30pm, with the main discussion starting around 7:30 pm and ending at 9 pm.

If you find that you want to divest yourself of your old Apple hardware to make way for something new and shiny then you can bring up to 5 items to swap at the meeting.

It’s time to ask – do you need help with your holiday letter? If you started such a project and it won’t come  together the way you want – is it because of the software you are using? Are you trying to get more organized before the new year begins?

Learn some shortcuts, clarify how to use new features, or figure out why your device is not working “like it should”. These are some of the things that members of the Portland Macintosh Users Group can help with.
